Bombax ceiba

Bombax ceiba is a large tropical deciduous tree often known as the red silk-cotton tree or cotton tree. Native to tropical Asia and northern Australia, it is famous for its tall straight trunk, often armed with conical spines when young, and for its bright red flowers that appear before the leaves. Mature trees can become very tall, and their fruits split open to release white cotton-like fibers surrounding the seeds. Although the wood is relatively soft, the tree has long been valued for fiber, ornamental planting, and ecological importance. Its dramatic flowering display and bold form make it one of the most recognizable tropical trees in the landscape.
