Cordia sebestena

Geiger tree, scarlet cordia · Boraginaceae · Evergreen small tree

Clusters of bright orange-scarlet flowers held almost continuously against dark, rough-textured evergreen foliage. Small, salt-hardy and reliable in coastal heat — one of the most useful flowering trees for seafront schemes.

Landscape use

Coastal resorts, promenades, courtyards, car park islands and street planting where space is limited. Its compact scale and continuous flowering make it dependable close to buildings and hard landscape.

Because it flowers almost year-round rather than in one burst, it holds colour in a scheme through seasons when the larger flowering trees are bare.
