A coastal shade tree with the tiered branching of the genus carried on a heavier frame, and large leathery leaves that turn red and gold before falling. Naturally a beach tree, and among the most salt-tolerant species we supply.

Landscape use

Beachfront and waterfront planting, resort grounds, coastal parks and promenades. The tiered crown gives broad dense shade close to the sea, where the choice of reliable trees is narrow.

At its best over sand, grass and planting, where the large leaves and fruit fall naturally into the setting. Set back a little from pale paving and pools, it gives broad shade with very little upkeep.
